Cardinal Stritch University

In order to work in a Milwaukee school, all Fellows must enroll in the Cardinal Stritch program and begin taking their first classes simultaneous with participation in summer Pre-service Training in 2012. Fellows will remain enrolled for a total of six consecutive semesters, including a session during summer 2013.Through this program, Fellows will build on what they learned during the summer and develop new skills that help them achieve excellence throughout their teaching career.

Cardinal Stritch’s School of Education has developed a program specifically to meet the needs of Milwaukee Teaching Fellows. Streamlined courses are offered at convenient times to accommodate the busy schedule of a first- and second-year teacher. More importantly, the program takes advantage of Fellows’ day-to-day experiences by offering courses that are grounded in actual teaching practice, providing concrete strategies you can use in your classroom right away.

Upon successfully completing all program requirements and university coursework, Fellows will graduate with a Master of Arts in Teaching, making them eligible to apply to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for an Initial Educator’s License.

Please note: Milwaukee Teaching Fellows will provide you with information about when to enroll at Cardinal Stritch University. No action on your part is necessary at this point. In addition, our  partnership with Cardinal Stritch University and the Master's degree option reflect past years' experience. Both are subject to change based on the needs of the district, program requirements, and our Fellows' teaching subjects. We will notify you of any changes prior to enrollment in Pre-service Training.

Program Costs and Financial Assistance

Milwaukee Teaching Fellows and Cardinal Stritch University have collaborated to offer reduced tuition rates for the certification and Master’s program. The cost for certification and a master’s degree for Fellows in the 2011-2012 school year was approximately $510 per credit hour. The total cost for 38 credits over the course of two years was approximately $19,380.

Fellows are responsible for all costs associated with the Cardinal Stritch University program, but financial assistance–including potential eligibility for a $5500 Americorps Teaching Award—may be available.
